I’ve been developing with Michael Verdi, Jay Dedman and Cheryl Colan a plugin that supports the Vlogsplosion theme. The plugin consists of a new interface into vPIP that allows quick and easy input of your poster image and media urls (for Flash, Quicktime, iPod, Apple TV, Mobile & Windows Media.) And a vPIP feeds script and widget for creating unique feeds for the media types listed above.

Vlogsplosion media entry below where you write your post

vPIP unique feeds widget’s user control box

I haven’t documented vPIP’s new features and usage yet. But I have a pre-release Wordpress download -> here <- with these install instructions:

Download from the link above.

Unzip vPIPwp.zip to a local folder like the desktop

Backup the prior install of vPIP at your wordpress blog ../wp-content/plugins/vPIP folder and erase the contents there.

Copy the contents of the unziped vPIPwp.zip /vPIP folder to your wordpress blog ../wp-content/plugins/vPIP folder.

Deactivate and activate (cycle turning on) vPIP at the admin Plugins menu.

Go to admin Options->vpip Config to setup the media you’ll be using. This is the default that will come into the area below writing the blog entry. When writing, you can override the defaults.

Also included is the vPIP Feeds. It’s located in the /widgets folder in vPIPwp.zip. To install this widget you need a theme that supports widgets. To setup a theme for widgets go through the Wordpress Widgeting Themes page.

Then copy the contents of the \widgets folder from vPIPwp.zip into the ../wp-content/plugins/widgets folder. You can then setup the vPIP Feeds widget under theme’s admin menu. Look at the control box when setting up the vPIP Feeds widget to select the vlogsplosion feeds and enter custom feeds.

Let me know of any bugs you find. I’ll be fully documenting the new vPIP 1.01 on vpip.org after Pixelodeon!

What’s new in vPIP 1.01 Beta:

The vlogsplosion interface for easily entering your poster Image and types of videos.

ThickBox works now on IE6 & Safari (need code generator or coding by hand for ThickBox.)

Flash viewer, cirneViewer*.swf, controls automatically resize to vlog dimension specified in vPIP.

Need to only specify the video size (the control area will automatically be entered.)

May need to go back to prior vPIP vlog entries and change the size down.

vPIP Feeds widget for placing feeds list in your blog sidebar.

The media types (Flash, Quicktime, iPod, Apple TV, Mobile, Windows Media) can be specified to unique feeds.

The a ability to specify feeds is very flexible from just the extension of the movie (wmv, mov, mp4, flv, etc.) to wild cards for the video file names ( i.e., vacation*.mov).

And multiple file types can be specified with a comma (like mov,mp4).

An external flash player can be specified.

To support requests for new features in vPIP, I’ll be setting up a section of vpip.org for bidding requests for features. You’ll be able to state the capability, bid a price for it and I’ll respond as to whether I accept the bid. If accepted, I’ll give a date period when I’ll accomplish the request. The request and bidding can be public or private by the bidders (your) choosing.

Stay tuned for this capability which I’ll announce here and on the main vpip.org site.
